Hyatt Vineyards Appoints Steve Hovanes Winemaker
In the Spring of 2011 Hyatt & Roza Ridge Vineyards appointed Steve Hovanes as our Winemaker. Steve assumes the duties of previous Winemaker Andy Gamache, who has returned to managing his family’s farms.
With three plus year’s experience making wine from Washington States’ vinifera, Steve has become adept at managing both viticulture and winemaking in this unusual and promising pioneer region where our own-rooted varietals may eventually eclipse the quality of grapes from other West Coast vineyards and wineries.
Steve’s winemaking history includes winemaking in New Zealand at Esk Valley Estate and Tukipo River Estate and he has a ‘global’ perspective on producing varietal wines. With a B.S. in Wine Science from Charles Sturt University in New South Wales, Australia and experience a variety of engineering responsibilities, Steve is the perfect Winemaker for our family-owned winery in the Rattlesnake Hills Appellation of the northern Yakima Valley in Washington State. He will take us to the ‘next level’ of producing all Estate-grown and bottled varietals from our 180 acres of mature vines.
Steve also brings a great passion for winemaking as well as an appreciation of global winemaking to this most promising region. We believe that Steve Hovanes will not only improve upon our past performance but with his advanced skills reveal more of the promise of this remarkable pioneer region.
